10 years. One leap. Lifelong impact.

267 Lives transformed to date. It’s a good start.But...

Dear CORRAL Champion,

Because we believe “Every broken life can be made whole again,” we never doubt that success will come to each and every girl we serve. Thanks to champions like you, we have spent 10 years witnessing the incredible victories of our girls — 267 of them, in fact! We plan on serving two hundred girls every year by 2028, so we will take a big leap and open our first new location in 2019! You will receive a copy of the CORRAL expansion plan in the coming weeks, so keep an eye on your mailbox for that. Right now I want to share what’s happening at CORRAL today, so you understand why I, my staff and our Board are determined to take this leap.

Tears flowing, she said, “What’s the point of me studying this? I’ve never passed anything and I’m not going to pass this. I fail at everything. It’s what I do!"

On a recent Saturday at the farm, Aisha was “having a moment,” let’s say. Actually, she was having a day. Our Program Manager, Camille, spent the entire eight hours convincing her to study for a test. You read that right — eight hours. This kid yelled. She threw insults. Finally, the dam burst. Tears flowing, she said, “What’s the point of me studying this? I’ve never passed anything and I’m not going to pass this. I fail at everything. It’s what I do!” Without skipping a beat, Camille told her we would never give up on her and we would teach her to pass those tests. By the end of that day, together, they completed two assignments. And yeah — they studied for that test, too.

All across our community, girls live in situations which create the mindset that failure is “what they do.” Picking yourself up by the bootstraps assumes you have a set of boots to begin with. For Aisha to make up her test after school assumes the family has a car to get her there. They don’t. For her to study consistently assumes her mom isn’t constantly moving to different schools to avoid domestic violence. And yet they must, for now. For Aisha to make friends with “good kids” assumes she lives in a community where there is no gang activity outside her door. It assumes there are no younger siblings to care for, which would leave her time to be with friends. This is the reality for the girls we serve. This is what we mean when we say the odds are stacked against them.

She will beat the odds like so many CORRAL girls before her, because we will beside her every step of the way. The problem is, we are out of room at our farm in Cary. I cannot stand by while we continue turning away kids who need CORRAL, simply for lack of space.

Every happy ending at CORRAL has a beginning that’s hard to swallow. CORRAL wades in where others have either given up, or simply can do no more. What teacher can sit with a kid for 8 hours convincing her to study, or drive her to and from the test if need be? CORRAL is designed to fill these gaps. This kiddo doesn’t believe she will pass her End of Grade test because she never has — not yet. But we believe it; in fact we know she will, because ten years of doing this work tells us she can! She will beat the odds like so many CORRAL girls before her, because we will beside her every step of the way. The problem is, we are out of room at our farm in Cary. I cannot stand by while we continue turning away kids who need CORRAL, simply for lack of space. I’m betting you won’t stand for that either.

We are so grateful for the time you have invested in our mission. Now it is time to begin the search for the next 20 CORRAL girls, and create another safe place for them to learn and heal. So I want to humbly invite you to give in a new way: help us raise $200,000 by December 31, 2018.

Will you take this leap with us by donating today?

Each individual supporter matters to us. You do not stand idle when you see a child in need — you pitch in! YOU and your simple act of giving anything at all will help us create another safe haven for girls like Aisha! And if you choose to give monthly, you strengthen not only our girls, but CORRAL as well! Either way, you have lifelong impact. Please return the enclosed pledge card or visit corralriding.org/taketheleap. Thank you in advance for your part in CORRAL’s next big leap!
